St Mary of the Angels Centenary

The celebration will focus on the connections between the church and the various communities, both catholic and civic, that have come to know and love its presence in the very heart of Wellington City. A church, under the name of Mary, that has always been open and welcoming to all as they experience the various seasons of their lives. Our celebrations will begin on Friday the 12th of August 2022, and conclude on Sunday the 14th of August 2022. The programme of events for this celebration is as follows:

Friday August 12
5.30 PM Mass of St Peter Chanel, proto-martyr of the Pacific, Marist connections to SMoA: preacher - Fr Mervyn Duffy SM.
7.00 PM Mother Mary Aubert - her connections to SMoA: a talk by Jesse Munro, her biographer (in Parish Hall).
   
Saturday August 13
11.00 AM Mass of Healing: preacher - Fr John Rea SM.
7.30 PM Concert: SMoA choir, school choirs and soloists, including Fr Chris Skinner SM. Entrance by koha.
   
Sunday August 14
N.B. 9.30 AM (at St Joseph's) and 11.00 AM masses cancelled
9.00 AM Centenary Mass, with Archbishop Paul Martin SM.
2.00 PM Dedication of St Mary of the Angels Church as the National Shrine of New Zealand with the NZ Bishops.
